Child Support
All states run a child support enforcement program, either in the human services department or department of revenue, often with the help of district attorneys and other law enforcement agencies and officials of family or domestic relations courts. Families seeking child support services must apply directly through their state or local agency which is running the program. A Mississippi company run by one of Gov. Sam Brownback's donors was awarded a contract to administer Kansas child support services last week, two years after the state hired one of the company's former employees to head up the child support division.
Comments made during the election season last fall by Republican Lando Voyles led most employees of the child support division to assume a change was coming should he win office.
