Starting to disapline

My daughter is a year old and she is learning right from wrong and starting to not listen. She walks and gets into things she knows not to and smiles at me when I tell her no but will bring something to me when I ask her to so I know that she is understanding what I say. I know that I have to start teaching her to listen to mom and what not I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to the best way to start teaching them these things or is this something that might have to wait until she is a little older. I have two nephews and neither one of them listen or behave like they should. I don't want that for my daughter. So if anyone has advise please let me know.
