I am a single mother of 4 boys. I was wondering bout custody in kansas. My youngest child is 18 months and his father never has really been there. When I was pregnant i went threw hell with him. He was born and we had a test to prove he was the father. Since then he has been in and out of my sons life and has always wanted to see him on his terms only. My sons father was also married when i had him. Now he keeps tell me he wants joint custody of him, but i dont want that. He has beenin and out of jail, on drugs and drinks alot. Not to mention he cant even pay his childsupport like he is suppose to. Do i need to go to court to get full custody? Will i have hard time getting full custody? Confused

There really is no such thing as full custody now... it is called primary custody with the non custodial parent having partial and/or reasonable custody.

If you don't have a court order, then yes you are going to need to go to court to obtain legal and primary custody of your son. I would hire an attorney. If you have nothing pertaining custody, then when he takes your son on a visit, he could possibly keep him and file himself.

One of the only reasons a man would want joint custody is so that he doesn't have to pay support at all. He is only required to pay for his son during his time with his son, and you support him when you have him.

Once Bernard Shaw was having a walk when some harum-scarum cyclist ran into him and Shaw fell to the ground. The cyclist was very sorry and came off his bike to help Shaw get on his feet. Fortunately Shaw was not hurt. The cyclist apologized to Shaw, but Shaw said, "Iím sorry that you are unlucky. If you had killed me, you would be known all over the world."
