I am scheduled to have a custody evaluation done that was court appointed by the judge. I had asked my lawyer what I need to do to get prepared for this but she told me to just be honest. Father and I are not married and never had a relationship, we have a 1 yr old child and have joint custody with me having primary residence. In March he had put in a motion for primary residence but was denied, and also to have me see a evaluator accusing me of being unfit. The usual scenario these type of fathers try to prove. He sees our child 6 days every week and still tells people he doesn't get to see her. Also on his parenting time he has been leaving her with other people while he goes off to work, so apparently he is not with her when he told the judge he has all this time to be with her. What I need to know what is involved in a custody evaluation. Can I ask the evaluator if I can tape our interview? Can I bring up these concerns to the evaluator about father having a heavy work schedule and would like to have "right of first refusal". Any advice or suggestions would be helpful.

I as well have just recently undergone a court ordered psychological evaluation and testing (the MMPI). Being honest is the best way to go about this, there is no study manual! Stay calm, be confident and remember this is for your child(ren). If you are taking the MMPI it is a very ong test and the questions are sometimes repeated but wordered in a different way just to see if you contradict yourself, so remember be honest and alert. It is a True / False test that is about 567 questions long so also before taking the test take some aspirn, by the end of it you will feel cross-eyed. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
