I have a friend who's job has been threatened on a few occasions. The first incident her supervisor wanted her to go on a company trip that was not mandatory but my friend decided not to go because she is a single mother and didn't want to leave her three month old with anyone. Well the supervisor said to her that she "didn't want her to lose her job if she didn't go"...the second incident just happened today because her daughter has been sick all weekend and she had to go too the ER again and where my friend works, is at a childcare facility and her daughter goes there well if the child is sick, she cannot go and my friend is the director at the facility. Well her supervisor again threatened her job by saying, "you need to have a back up plan or else"...is this legal for her to threaten her job because of the circumstances?

Can someone help me with this question?

Sounds like your friend is going thru some sort of harrassment.
I suggest she meet with the HR or personnel dept of her company to see what can be done!
If not, go to her supervisor's boss.

I have the same trouble at work about being absent when my son is sick. Day cares don't take sick kids. What are you supposed to do, leave the kid at home alone? But, when your absent from work, you are absent. It doesn't matter why. It's hard being a single mother, isn't it? She needs to get a babysitter instead of using a day care. That's what I did and I haven't missed a day since.
