|This report just came out by the US. Dept. of Agriculture - August 2009 (the study was done in 2008 apparently). It covers 2 parent and single parent households.
Child-rearing expense patterns of single-parent households with a before-tax income less than $56,870 were only 7 percent lower than those of husband-wife households in the same income group. According to the report MOST single-parent households are in this income group.
